Just got back from our local farmers market and posted below is just some of the organic produce I picked up for under $25! There is nothing better than getting fresh vegetables and fruits that are grown organically and locally. Aside from supporting your local farmers, you are also adding to the savings in your wallet. I'm always bewildered by the mass quantity and variety that is available, especially during the summer months! In addition to fresh produce, you can also pick up some homemade jams, honeys, salsas, you name it ... which also means they typically do not have all the unnecessary preservatives, salts, sugars, etc! So if you don't already, get out and enjoy your local farmers market. Your body, wallet, and local economy will thank you!

If you don't have the chance to check one out, here is a chart of what fruits and vegetables are in season to increase your chance of buying locally and decreasing your environment footprint.
PBD Recipe
S's Simple Salsa
Ingredients:
1 can no added-salt diced tomatoes (or two chopped medium tomatoes)
1-can diced tomatoes with green chiles (like Rotel or preferably a no-added salt brand)
1/2 small onion, roughly chopped
1 clove garlic, peeled and smashed
1/2-1 jalapeno, seeded or not (optional)
1 small to medium carrot
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
small to medium size handful of cilantro, washed
juice of 1 lime
Put all the ingredients in the base of a food processor or good blender
and pulse to combine for 20-30 seconds or so until all the ingredients are
finely chopped and salsa is desired consistency. Taste for seasoning and
adjust to your liking. Serve with veggies, chips, in a quesadilla, or over tacos.
Always, Your Healthy Herbivore,
S
